  • Odell. All Saint’s Church. Home of the Rev. Peter Bulkeley until he was kicked out for nonconformism about 1634. Emigrated to Boston in 1635.

E S S E X

  • Tillingham. St. Nicholas Church. Happy home of the Rev. Humphrey Cole from 1588-1624.  See 3-panel stained-glass window and plaque in his name. Buried in churchyard.

H E R T F O R D S H I R E

  • Ware. Christ Church. Home of the Rev. Charles Chauncy from 1627-1633. Imprisoned for nonconformist beliefs; emigrated to Boston in 1637.

K E N T

  • Bethersden. Lovelace Place. Home of the Lovelace family from 1368 to 1649. Now in private hands.
  • Canterbury. Canterbury Cathedral. Burial site of Serjeant William Lovelace,  his wife Anne Lewes Lovelace, and their daughter-in-law Elizabeth Aucher Lovelace.
  • Canterbury. Greyfriars Priory. The order of Grey Friars, or Begging Friars, started building here about 1270; the order was dissolved in 1534 and sold to laymen. The Lovelace family owned and lived in Greyfriars for three or four generations beginning in 1575. Not sure which building they lived in.
  • Dulwich. Dulwich Picture Gallery. Home of the portraits of Sir William Lovelace of Bethersden and Sir William Lovelace of Woolwich.
