The Mathews Family

This section shows the descent of the Mathews family to Alice Vernon Wilson. It’s even shorter than the previous one, with only four generations from the immigrants to Alice’s mother. The immigrants, the German Johann Jacob Mathews and his Swiss wife Anna Jung, left Alsace-Lorraine for Philadelphia in 1733. They, too, made their way to Maryland to join the German farming community there. Alice’s grandfather, who probably grew up speaking German, made his way to Baltimore and from there to New Orleans.
